5 Cooking Shows Brits Can’t Stop Talking About

Teacher Sam, Wednesday, May 12th

We all want it to be true – and it actually is – watching TV in a foreign language is a great way to improve your comprehension and fluency! The British are crazy for cooking – and television cooking shows are very popular! Here are the top 5 cooking shows that the Brits can’t stop talking about!

  1. Masterchef

‘Cooking doesn’t get much better than this!’ is the show’s tagline – and they’re (usually) right. This show takes amateur contestants from all over the UK and they compete for the title of Masterchef by completing a series of food challenges. Masterchef is one of the UK’s main exports and the show now exists in Australia and the US. It’s compulsive watching – if you’re a keen foodie, take a look!

2. The Great British Bake off

For those with a sweet tooth – The Great British Bake Off is one of the most popular shows in the UK right now. It’s a light hearted fun approach to baking. Some of the cakes are genuinely amazing, others less so!

3. Somebody Feed Phil

Phil Rosenthal is an American on a mission: taste every flavour of the world! His documentary series takes us from the vibrant restaurants of New Orleans to the street food parlours to Vietnam. He enthusiastically eats his way through all sorts of tasty looking dishes (and some pretty strange looking ones too!)

4. Come Dine with Me

A show that brings you into the homes of British people as they try to navigate the perilous world of dinner party cooking! Each week four complete strangers meet, cook and rate each others dinner parties for the chance to win £1,000.

5. Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares

Don’t watch while you’re eating! British Chef Gordon Ramsey travels to the United States uncovering the disgusting food and the worst practices in bars and restaurants. His arguments with the managers in the places he visits make the show ripe for compulsive watching! It’s an eye-opening experience!
